Yohanan Ratner (1891-1965) was a unique person. His three names can testify to this: Yevgeny the Russian, Oygen the German and Yohanan – the Jew and Israeli. In Israel he was known as Yohanan and bore two crowns: the crown of an architect and the crown of a senior military officer. For the matter at hand, it is important to immediately note that Yohanan Ratner is the planner and designer of the National Institutions Building in Jerusalem, who won first place in the architectural competition for designing the building, which took place in 1928.
