he House Where the State Was Born

The state was born on 5th Iyar 5708 in a building in Tel Aviv that
had a history of its own even before great national history was made
there. "Dizengoff House" grew up with Tel Aviv on the sand dunes that
became a city.

Sixty-six families are inscribed on the pages of history as the founders of Ahuzat Bayit
– the neighborhood that grew and developed into the city of Tel Aviv. Sixty homes were
built on the dunes in the Ahuzat Bayit neighborhood; each founding family with its own
interesting origins, each house with its own fascinating story. However, there can be no
doubt that the most prominent among the founders was Meir Dizengoff, who eventually
became mayor of Tel Aviv. The building that bears the most distinguished historic load is
his house, the house he built with his wife Tzina, which stands to this day at 16 Rothschild
Boulevard in Tel Aviv. It is the mayor's house, where the Tel Aviv Museum was founded
