One of the finest ceremonies that the capital of Jerusalem has seen in recent years was the ceremony for the giving of the flag of Jerusalem, which took place yesterday afternoon. It had all the qualities one might expect in this sort of celebration – Good content, perfect order, short speeches and over it all – the sublime sight of Jerusalem in the afternoon hours that is revealed from the courtyard of the National Institutions.
School children from all over the country arrived at the ceremony, headed by the guests of honor, the students of the public school in Hadera, which had won the competition this year. The building of the Agency and the national funds was covered in greenery and flags of Zion, said the newspaper in its report.
During the first years, the "Flag of Jerusalem" was given by the Chairman of the KKL-JNF, Menachem Ussishkin. After his passing in 1941, the enterprise was named in his honor. Among the winners of the "Flag of Jerusalem" over the years was the Degania School, Shenkar in Holon, the Herzliya Hebrew Gymnasium, Shalva High School in Tel Aviv, State School B in Ness Ziona, Pardes Hanna
