"‫ ‏‬How you do feel at this first
moment of the independent state?"

‫‏‬Immediately upon the conclusion of the proclamation ceremony, the Haaretz
correspondent approach the provisional Prime Minister of the State of Israel,
Mr. D. Ben-Gurion, and some of the members of the government, with the
question, "How do you feel at this first moment of the independent Jewish state?"
‫‏‬The answers that were given were brief and to-the-point, expressing the feelings of the
people who are at the helm of the state.
‫‏‬

D. Ben-Gurion, Prime Minister, responded:
"The State of Israel has been established. The Jewish exile is over."

‫‏‬M. Shertok:
"I have just grown old in an instant; let us hope that we will grow

even older in it, in this state – very, very [old]."
‫‏‬

P. Rosenblüth:
"Good, and I hope that all will be good."
‫‏‬

Dr. P. Bernstein:
"An incomparably good feeling. I've never felt like this."

M‫ ‏‬. Bentov:
"It depends on what we'll do."

Y‫ ‏‬. Zisling:
"We'll engage in action; just work, work."
‫‏‬

E. Kaplan:
"We'll complete what we have started."
‫‏‬

B. Sheetrit:
"There's nothing like this moment,
the first moment of our Jewish state."
‫‏‬

Golda Meyerson:
"We'll wait and see. There will be trouble.
Much toil will be needed in the State of Israel."
