In the second phase, an academic building will be built on the eastern border of the complex.
What was the doctor's residence will be restored and renovated to become the college's
office building, and the R and R facility built by Jacob Rechter will be restored.
• On the slopes of the complex, on the northern aspect facing the valley, modern academic
buildings are planned for future construction.
• The entire development process will preserve the scenic prospect from the gateway to the
northern border of the complex.
Zefat Academic College is working according to a detailed design of the complex and is
involved in recruiting strategic partners in the government, public bodies, foundations and
private donors, which will enable it to bring its plans to fruition. The realization of these complex
programs will restore the historic character of the complex, and taken together with the restored
Rothschild-Hadassah hospital, will add a chapter to the history of Israel and the city of Safed.
This book brings together previously published information on these two unique buildings and
compounds, adds new threads to the historical events, a nd presents an optimistic outlook to
the development of the future complex. The book has been published with the support and
assistance of the management and employees of the college, the Society for Preservation of
Israel Heritage Sites and in particular, the publishing house of Yehudah Dekel.
The book is intended for residents and lovers of Safed and its history, those interested in the
history of Israel in modern times in general, and in the development of medicine in the Galilee
in particular; educators, mentors, lovers of architecture and guests planning to visit the city of
Safed.
Architect's impression of the Bussel House complex, the future central college
