as it were, of the event, came to assume great importance at the last moment.
N‫ ‏‬o-one imagined how much effort the leaders of the new state had invested, for example,
in the wording of the declaration. The problem facing them, first of all, was what to call
everything. The decision-makers were the members of the People’s Administration,
charged with managing the affairs of the Yishuv and establishing the Jewish state. They
