‫‏‬Rachel Cohen-Kagan

(60). Born in Ukraine, immigrated in 1919 and settled in Haifa. For
many years she was involved in the realms of social aid, welfare,
and promoting the status of women. A social activist in Haifa and
on the Jewish National Council, and a founder of WIZO. In 1946
she was elected chairman of WIZO Israel, and she represented the
organization on the Provisional State Council. Member of the 1st
Knesset representing WIZO and of the 5th Knesset representing the Liberal Party.
Died in 1982.

‫‏‬Kalman Kahana

(38). Born in Galicia (then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire).
A rabbi and scholar who researched the Jewish laws and customs of
the Land of Israel, he also held a Ph.D. in philosophy. Leader of the
Po'alei Agudat Yisrael Party. Immigrated in 1938 and helped found
Kibbutz Hafetz Haim. Member of the Provisional State Council
and a Member of the 1st-9th Knesset. Deputy minister in several governments. Editor
of the newspaper She'arim. Died in 1991.

S‫ ‏‬a'adia Kobashi

(46). ‫‏‬Born in Yemen, immigrated at the age of 7. Lived with
his family in Jerusalem and studied at religious educational
institutions. His father wanted to train him as a silversmith, in
the family tradition, but he preferred teaching. Taught both in
Palestine and overseas, and was active amongst the Yemenite
Jewish community. Member of the institutions of the Assembly of Representatives
(Asefat HaNivharim) and of the Jewish National Council. Represented the Yemenite
Association in the Provisional State Council. After the establishment of the state he
was ordained as a rabbi. Died in 1990.

Yitzhak Meir Levin

(54). B‫ ‏‬orn in Poland, grandson of the Rebbe of Gur. A leader of
Agudat Yisrael in Poland. Immigrated in 1940 and was a member
of the Board of the Va'ad HaHatzala (Rescue Committee) which
operated during the Second World War. Leader of Agudat Yisrael
in the Land of Israel. Member of the Provisional State Council and
Minister of Welfare in the provisional government. Served in this
position during the early governments of Israel, up until 1952. Member of the 1st-7th
Knesset. Died in 1971.
